Bakeries

There are a handful of bakeries that offer gluten free breads. However, there is one in particular that goes above and beyond. That is Naturbageriet. They offer several kinds of breads and pastries that are gluten free and baked fresh daily. My personal favorites are the valnøddeflutes (walnut flutes - not too sweet and a great power snack) and æble-ris-snegl (apple-rice cinnamon roll)

*Note: many of their baked goods contain oats, which some coeliacs have a problem with. Just ask about ingredients if you don’t read Danish.

**Tip: You can order bread by the half-loaf – a good option if you’re eating it by yourself.

There is a relatively new bakery in town called FeelgoodBakery in Nørrebro, Copenhagen. This bakery is really cool because they sell both tasty baked goods and GF baking ingredients. That means you can make their kernebrød (seed bread) at home.

Andersens has a few gluten free options and three locations across the city. They also have a delicious gluten free cake called Gateaux Marcel (however, it does have butter in it for those of you with a casein problem). 

*They do use wheat starch in some products, which is certified gluten free, but not suitable for wheat allergies.

There is a bakery in Frederiksberg called Vagns Konditori that makes two kinds of gluten free bread once a week and then freezes it, so it is available at any time. Call ahead to ask when they are fresh baked. They make small but dense, tasty loaves.
